What should a tradie invoice include?
A practical invoice gives the customer everything needed to check the job and pay without another phone call. Include:
- Your business or trading name, contact details and ABN.
- A unique invoice number plus the issue date and due date.
- The customer's name and address or other identifying details.
- A clear description of labour, materials, quantities and prices.
- The subtotal, GST amount where applicable and total amount due.
- Bank, PayID or other payment instructions and a contact for questions.
GST-registered businesses must follow the Australian Taxation Office's tax invoice requirements. Businesses that are not registered for GST should not charge GST. Check the ATO tax invoice guidance or ask a registered tax professional if you are unsure.
